Hi guys!
Sorry for the slight delay, I was out of the country this weekend and I thought I wouldn't be delayed upon returning home. I was wrong.
Anyway, here's the second part of the Let's Get Published challenge. Only three people (your truly included) responded to the first part of this challenge, but that's ok. I'll pretend there's a lot of people in the background who weren't at all interested in feedback (incidentally, if you are interested, you can still reply to the previous journal: aspiringauthors.deviantart.com… If anybody pops up I'll be offering them feedback myself ).
So, do you have a novelette (7500 words - 15000 words) in the works? Wondering where you're going to get it published?
Mention the following facts here:
-how long is it? (the more exact, the better)
-what genre is it (fantasy? horror? romance? magic realism?)
-any other details would be very, very welcome, because then I'll know what to look for.
I'll post possible interesting markets in this journal. You aren't obligated to choose any of them, or to submit anything. Have fun
Edit: Ok, I was expecting more people asking for markets, instead of just one.
But, let's see. About 10.000 words, science fiction, open to various types of stories.
Option number 1: Unstuck Books. They're only open for submissions from time to time, for a few days, but they're open from now until the 1st of November. From what I hear they're a difficult-ish market to get into and you'd get $50 for your story.
Option number 2: Giganotosaurus. They only publish 1 story per month, so they're difficult to get into as well. You get $100 for your submission.
Option number 3: Nine. A magazine that publishes 9 stories and offers 9% royalties to each author. They offer at least $40.
Option number 4: Asimov's. I'm linking to their submission guidelines instead of their home page, because their guidelines are hard to find. They're a very reputable publisher, quite well paying, but very hard to get into. They're especially interested in character-oriented stories.
Option number 5: Nil Desperandum. They're interested in stories about "Truth, Life and the Human Condition", but aside from that they take any genre. The interesting part is that they release stories in audio format instead of written format. They accept stories easier than the other markets - and they pay $70 for stories over 10.000 words ($50 for under).
Option number 6: Leading Edge. They're interested in all speculative fiction, they take more than 1 in 10 stories and they pay 1 cent/word, up to $50. Unfortunately, they have a backlog of 4-6 months, so replies are really slow. The fun part is, however, that they offer critique.
Option number 7: If you've never been published, it's worth checking out a contest as well. Namely, Writers of the Future. You retain all rights to your story. It might be interesting to check out.
Option number 8: Tor.com. THE market when it comes to sci fi/fantasy. Very hard to get into, but very reputable and pays 25 cents/word for the first 5,000 words, if I recall correctly. And then less, but still a lot.
Good luck!

Time to write a novel
Pick up your keyboard, my writers, we're going for a ride. November is here and along with it the InterNational Novel Writing Month - in one word, NaNoWriMo. If you haven't signed up on the website yet, you should. Click on this and it'll take you there.
If you've somehow never heard about it before, the NaNo event is pretty much what I described above - a month-long race to write a novel. Or, more exactly, to write 50.000 words. You get pep talks throughout the month, urging you on, hundreds of thousands of writers writing alongside you and a nifty stat thing showing you how much you've written every day, what your goal for the day is and h
Contest + October Challenge
Hello, fellow aspiring authors!
First of all, I'd like to announce you that one of our affiliate groups, #full-moon-poetry (https://www.deviantart.com/full-moon-poetry) is holding a poetry contest with the deadline on December 21st. General theme: the end of the world. The rules can be found here: http://full-moon-poetry.deviantart.com/journal/Apocalyptic-contest-327285163
Also, because we're aspiring authors, I'd like to launch a pre-NaNoWriMo challenge to all our members: write a novelette (7.5k-15k words) - and submit it to a market.
Does that sound scary? Yeah, to me too. Here's how it's going to work:
1. Decide on what you want to write. Then do one of two things:
a. Start
Back and Kicking + Premium Content
[Most of this was cross-posted on my personal journal here: http://theothersarshi.deviantart.com/journal/A-Good-Thought-About-Premium-Content-315307104]
Helllooooo, everybody!
I've been gone for a long, long time due to RL situations. Such as, say, working hard to obtain my Master's Degree. Which I got. So now that's over and I'm back and kick-starting this group again.
For starters, I'll talk about something new on deviantArt: Premium Content. What's it about?... Well, the possibility of selling digital files on this site. (check here:http://fav.me/d56pu1x ) take 20% of sales and y
Bittersweet Symphony
Hey all!
I'm home, playing Bittersweet Symphony and thinking - this is the song to start 2012 with.
Because it's beautiful.
Because it's about things being beautiful and not at the same time.
Because it's optimistic while being realistic.
Because it's full of life and it makes you smell the roses while doing other stuff.
I dedicate it to you. Because you're writers and books tend to have their less cheerful sides, but which less cheerful sides can still be sublime. Because you need to keep on going to get those stories written. Because it's hard work and people generally can't tell how much work you put into it. Because you're awesome.

I'm writing a story about a girl under mind control, who rebels (sounds corny...But it's pretty neat when you give it the chance to be). It's called A Too Short Tale. It'll be about ten thousand words, and it's sort of a science fiction. I never know what to call my work when it comes to genres...
